Bitter-Sweet Dreams

I just saw my husband walk into our room to take his morning nap. Normally he doesn’t give it a second thought after he takes medicines that make him drowsy. Today, however, his face showed a pang of bitter regret as he had to put away the story he was listening to.

25 years of marriage has made it possible for me to predict with uncanny accuracy the things that go through his mind. I’m sure that at the moment, as he drifts into his prison slumber, he is figuring out what the next twist in the plot will bring and as he succumbs to the loss of consciousness, he’ll be happily and victoriously immersed in the story himself.
